Anyone that creates regularly will understand the sense of excitement when you feel you have an exceptional idea for an etching... I have collected my photographic images, these I plan to transfer onto the zinc plates that I prepared with photographic emulsion last week... tomorrow they will be ready for the dark room... of course these plates may go wrong or the composition may not develop as well as it does in my imagination... However I plan not to consider the possibility of failure and concentrate on completing my vision...
It could be said that Calle’s work is based purely on scopophilia, at first we assume she is the voyeur that seeks to observe her subjects under surreptitious surveillance and decipher their lives purely by conjecture. However, possibly she is the one that wants to be scrutinized and un-picked by society due to her choice of subject. This use of the personal intimacy in her narratives can make the spectator a collaborator in exposing her violations of privacy.
Today I visited The Tate Modern USSR Soviet Propaganda Exhibition. Posters of this sort, promoting post-revolutionary society, could be found on walls and store windows throughout the USSR, these crude, amateur, printing techniques were so cheap to reproduce that hundreds could be created per day. They reminded the Russian people of the work that was left to be done and instilled in them a desire to keep evil from penetrating into Russian society once again.
I detest women that act crazy ... but even I have been known to react to situations in strange ways... I wince at some of the spectacularly embarrassing circumstances some of my female friends have been in, and in most incidents I firmly sympathize with the men... so why do women have these periods of severe weirdness? Even sensible intelligent, down-to-earth women with a great sense of humor - like me? Possibly because of our need to over analyze things, question approval... the way we declare untrue opinions in order to read and unpick the reaction rather than just asking a straight bloody question? ... who knows. My choice of illustration is of an extreme in the 'crazy women behavior' genre but it was chosen to make me feel less deranged regarding my own foolish conduct as a result of my personal insecurities.
There is a myth about the statue of Victor Noir that has made it legendary. The sculpture has a very noticeable protuberance in Noir’s trousers. This has made it one of the most popular memorials for women to visit in the famous cemetery. The myth says that placing a flower in the upturned top hat after kissing the statue on the lips and rubbing its genital area will enhance fertility, bring a blissful sex life, or, in some versions, a husband within the year. As a result of the legend, those particular components of the oxidized bronze statue are rather well-worn.
